Rostraver Ice Garden in final round of Kraft Hockeyville USA contest
BELLE VERNON – Rostraver Ice Garden is one of two finalists for a chance to win $150,000 in improvements in the Kraft Hockeyville USA 2017 competition.
Online voting began Monday and will end today as Rostraver competes for the title against Bloomington Ice Garden in Bloomington, Minn., the Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday. The rink already has made it through two rounds of voting as the field was whittled down from more than 1,800 contenders.
“It’s exciting that Rostraver has made it to the finals, and the Penguins are supporting their efforts to be named Kraft Hockeyville USA for 2017,” said Travis Williams, chief operating officer of the Penguins. “We encourage our fans to get behind Rostraver and cast their votes.”
The grand prize winner also will have a chance to host an NHL preseason game this year.

The Penguins have been using social media to promote the Rostraver skating rink, which the team used as its home for training camp during the 1970s.
The team also said Rostraver’s owner, Jim Murphy, “has rebounded and shown remarkable resilience” since the building’s roof collapsed under the weight of a heavy snowstorm in 2010. Murphy could not be reached for comment Monday.
The rink announced it will host a party Saturday afternoon that will be nationally televised.
The winner is expected to be announced Saturday.
