Beth-Center superintendent resigns
Bethlehem-Center School District’s chief administrator plans to resign more than a year before her contract would have ended.
School Director Karen Drill said the district board voted 7-1 Monday, with member Thomas Katruska absent, to accept Superintendent Linda Marcolini’s resignation. Drill voted against the move but declined to say why.
“All I can comment is, the board and the superintendent agreed to a mutual separation,” said district solicitor Jim Davis. “The superintendent did resign, and I can’t comment anything further on an employee.”
Marcolini, whose last day of work is Friday, didn’t return a message left at her office Tuesday.
Bethlehem-Center doesn’t have an assistant superintendent.
Board President Donald Crile said officials were planning to find an interim superintendent to run day-to-day operations during the search for a new superintendent.
“I do not have a name for you yet, but we’re going to try to find someone who is going to fill in,” he said.
A former superintendent of Monessen schools, Marcolini started working for Bethlehem-Center on a 4 ½-year contract in early 2014. Her salary is $123,806 this year.
About a year into her tenure, Marcolini was charged with driving under the influence after she was involved in a vehicle crash in December 2014. South Fayette police said her blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit to drive.
An Allegheny County judge ordered her license suspended for at least 60 days and admitted her to the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program.
Those who complete the program for nonviolent first-time offenders can petition the court to have the charges dismissed and their records expunged.
