Search for city man continues as card use points to Florida
Last Thursday, as Kathy Roberts and her son had dinner at the McDonald’s restaurant in Peters Township, her brother, who is a shift manager there, sat down with them.
Less than 24 hours later, Roberts would learn in a Facebook message from his boss her 63-year-old brother, Milo “Dude” Briggs Jr., had not shown up for his Friday shift at the Route 19 restaurant.
“He sat there for a while as we ate. He said he was about done and getting ready to go home,” Roberts said Tuesday. “He seemed fine. The next afternoon, I get a Facebook message from his manager, as did my brother in Florida, that he did not show up for work which was highly unusual for him.”
Now, the family is hoping Briggs is on his way home. Washington police told the family Tuesday afternoon his debit card was used in Florida to make a withdrawal from his bank account. Roberts said he apparently tried to call her at work Tuesday, but she was not working that day. As of Tuesday night, Roberts had not spoken directly with her brother who does not have his cellphone with him.
Roberts reported him missing to Washington police Saturday morning. An officer came to her workplace so she could fill out a missing-persons report. She told police her brother’s green 2002 van was not parked in the lot near his apartment in the 200 block of West Chestnut Street.
Police went to Briggs’ apartment and were let in by a manager. He was not in the apartment, and everything appeared to be in order. A neighbor told police he had not seen Briggs in several days.
Roberts said her brother lives alone. He has no children or pets.
“He always kept himself private,” she added. “I know he had a difficult time when my father passed away in 2012.”
Her brother was the regular caregiver for their father for about 12 years.
The family reached out on social media in an effort to locate Briggs.
