College readiness program approved for Charleroi Area
Charleroi Area High School students will have a one-stop shop next year for college planning.
School directors approved a three-year agreement for the Naviance online career and college readiness program and data tracker at a total cost of $11,965.
The program is designed to help students track college readiness through high school to the college application process.
The online program tracks students’ progress and provides online career assessments.
With the program, students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors and administrators will be able to access the college data in one place.
Gina Cotton, high school guidance counselor, said the program will be a one-stop shop for the students.
“Everything will be online. Everything will be able to be tracked online: transcripts, grades and college applications,” she explained.
The program will also be used to track students after high school and will eliminate the paper surveys that are sent to alumni.
Superintendent Edward Zelich said this program was requested by the guidance department and will be another tool to help students succeed.
The school board approved hiring of Joshua Hozmak, as an autistic support teacher at a salary of $37,900 and high school life skills teacher, Justin Roycrot, at a salary of $40,145. Both had previously been employed by Intermediate Unit 1 for programs used by district students.
Zelich said that administrators felt that the hiring of these two teachers brings more stability to students as in-house employees.
