A North Strabane Township man faces theft charges filed against him by township police in connection with separate incidents last month, including the theft of a donation box for Little Sisters of the Poor.

Donald Lee Wright Jr., 27, of 476 Ross Road, Eighty Four, is charged with theft and two counts of access device fraud for allegedly stealing a Strabane woman’s wallet July 3, using one of her credit cards to make a purchase and using a second card to attempt to make a purchase. He is charged with theft and receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing the donation canister inside a business a week later.

Wright allegedly stole the donation box from Bethel Bakery, Washington Road, while in the business with a woman later identified as his mother.

Police said they contacted his mother, who told them he had asked her for money. She said she refused to give it to him, but agreed to buy him a drink, food and gasoline for his vehicle. She saw him walking out of the store but did not know why he left. Police said he apparently grabbed the donation box and took off. Police said his mother later called Wright, who allegedly told her there was only $23 in the donation box. Store personnel did not know how much money had been donated.

Wright also is accused of stealing a Michael Kors wallet from the kitchen of a home on Alexander Avenue while visiting the alleged victim’s brother. He then allegedly used one of the cards to make a $168.54 purchase from Home Depot on Murtland Avenue. Police said he made an unsuccessful attempt to use another card to make a purchase at the same store.

Charges in both cases were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Jay Weller. Wright is scheduled for a Sept. 11 hearing before Weller on both cases.
