WAYNESBURG – A “monster” is returning to Greene County Fair this year, and its name is the General Hazzard.

It’s the first time in three years the fair has offered free monster truck rides, Greene County Fair Board secretary and treasurer Debbie Stephenson said, and she expects it to draw a crowd.

“This was something that the kids really liked,” she said. “Most monster trucks you only get to watch, but this you get to go ride in.”

Stephenson said people will need steps or a ladder to get into General Hazzard, where they will sit back-to-back as they drive around the infield of the racetrack. She said it will be available from 5 to 10 p.m. daily at the fair, which began Saturday and continues tonight with the annual fair queen contest.

Stephenson also said the fair would welcome Pennsylvania WoodMobile, a traveling educational exhibit run by the state Department of Agriculture that educates on the state’s forests and different types of wood. It will be open to the public from 2 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“It’s a trailer that’s like a science lab,” Stephenson said. “We try to have something that’s educational for the kids. We were supposed to do it last year and they couldn’t make it, so this is the first year.”

Monday will feature the wool queen contest at 5:30 p.m. and tractor pulls at 7 p.m. People are expected to file in Tuesday for the 6:30 p.m. 4-H & FFA Market Steer Show, followed by truck pulls at 7 p.m. Wednesday will feature harness racing at 10 a.m. and the Chris Higbee Band at 8 p.m.

Seniors 65 and older will get into the fair free on Thursday for “Senior Citizen Night,” which will also be the night of the steer and lamb market sale at 6:30 p.m. A demolition derby will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, and the fair will come to a close Saturday with a wood-carving auction at 5 p.m. and truck and tractor pulls at 7 p.m.

The fair gates will be open from 3 to 11 p.m. each night with carnival rides starting at 5 p.m. Monday. Fair admission is $8.
