W.Va. man arraigned in area home invasion
The second of four men charged by Smith Township police in a home invasion in July 2015 in the village of Joffre was returned to Washington County for arraignment on charges for his alleged role in the break-in.
Douglas Raven Madison, 27, of Weirton, W.Va., had been in Jefferson County (Ohio) Jail on other charges. Township police Chief Bernie LaRue said he was brought back Tuesday by a detective with the Washington County district attorney’s office after it was learned he was incarcerated in Ohio.
Madison and Anthony Wayne Eddy, 30, of Follansbee, W.Va., Tyler Blackburn 28, of Wellsburg, W.Va., and Glenn Albert Stewart III, of Scio, Ohio, were charged in the home invasion on Harris Street. The homeowner, a 55-year-old man, and his 46-year-old friend were injured.
The homeowner told police he heard the doorbell in the early hours of July 9. When he opened the door, he was immediately attacked. The friend heard the commotion and came downstairs, where he was hit in the head.
The intruders demanded money. The homeowner told them where to find money and guns. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment, while his friend was taken to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center.
Eddy, Blackburn and Stewart were charged with burglary, robbery, aggravated assault, theft, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, conspiracy and unlawful restraint. Eddy is awaiting trial on the charges, while the other two remain at large. Police allege Madison also was present during the home invasion.
Madison was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of robbery, burglary and conspiracy. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. Madison is scheduled for an Aug. 24 preliminary hearing before Havelka.
