Temporary mine layoff attributed to difficult geological conditions
A temporary layoff was reported at CNX Coal Resources’ Enlow Fork Mine after one of the facility’s two longwall mining machines encountered inconsistent geological conditions.
The number of employees affected was not reported. A company spokesman, Zachary Smith, said in an email both longwalls continue to run and the company anticipates returning to normal operations soon.
“We expect the majority of those affected to be called back in the very near term as we resume normal production,” he said.
Enlow Fork Mine is part of CNX Coal Resource’s Bailey Mining Complex, which also includes the Bailey and Harvey Mine. The mine employs about 600 workers and has an average annual production capacity of 11.5 million tons.
