Kids, ages 10 to 13, honored for saving woman from fire
ELKINS PARK (AP) – Five friends, ages 10 to 13, have been honored by township officials for saving a woman from a house fire in suburban Philadelphia earlier this summer.
One of the kids was playing at an Elkins Park playground by herself on June 2 when she saw smoke coming from a nearby house.
Aileah Greenwood tells WPVI-TV that’s when she ran to get her sister and friends, who called 911.
They banged on the front door of the house, awakening college student Kayla Hobbs who was sleeping upstairs.
She says “they really saved me.”
A fire marshal says if the fire had burned much longer, the house would’ve been destroyed.
Thirteen-year-old Khasan Bowleg says it was a natural reaction to do the right thing, and credits his parents.
The kids were honored at the Cheltenham Township commissioner’s meeting Wednesday with a resolution.
