A 77-year-old bicyclist was flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital after he was struck by a vehicle and severely injured just after noon Tuesday on Toms Run Road in Wayne Township, Greene County Regional police Chief Michael Natale said.

Natale said the driver of the vehicle did not have cell phone service in that area to call 911 after the crash, so his passenger got out of the car to stay with the victim while the driver went to an area where he could call for help. He then returned to the scene, Natale said.

Natale said the driver has not been charged and that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

The bicyclist, whose name and condition were not released, is being treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
