A car that was involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon on Route 19 is loaded onto a flatbed truck.

A woman was flown to an area hospital by helicopter Tuesday following a two-vehicle crash on Route 19 in North Strabane Township.

North Strabane police Sgt. Dave Richards said the woman was driving a sport-utility vehicle south on Route 19 a little after 2 p.m. when she rear-ended a tri-axle truck that was waiting to turn left onto Conklin Road.

The 26-year-old woman had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken by helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital. Richards declined to release her name, saying authorities hadn’t been able to reach her family as of late afternoon. He said she is from the Peters Township area.

Route 19 was closed between Racetrack Road and Route 519 but reopened within an hour.

The SUV was towed. Richards said the truck sustained a flat tire, but the driver was still able to offload the asphalt it was carrying at its destination nearby.
