Maggi will lead SWPA Commission
Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi was elected this week to serve as chairman of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission, which strives for economic development and better transportation and bridges in a 10-county region.
In June, for example, the group voted to return the Mon-Fayette Expressway to its transportation plan after Allegheny County threatened to drop the project.
The governing body has five members from each county plus five from Pittsburgh and one from the governor’s office and other state and federal agencies.
Maggi’s term will last two years.
The 67-year-old former state trooper and sheriff from Buffalo Township has been chairman or co-chairman of the Washington County Board of Commissioners since taking office in 2004.
