McGuffey School Board reorganized last week, and has an opening on the nine-member panel.

Carl Group was re-elected president and Jeff Ross was elected vice president at the Dec. 7 meeting, which followed the regular monthly meeting.

Group, Ken Leasure, Rich Shriver and Ed Szygenda, who all won re-election last month, were sworn in to four-year terms. Susan Holmes was approved for a two-year term, taking a seat held briefly by Dave Haines.

Ross, Scott Finch and Scott Harden are holdovers among the directors who did not have to run for a seat. Ed Shingle Jr. likewise was slated to remain on the board, but resigned at the end of last week’s meeting. Shingle was elected to the Donegal Township board of supervisors Nov. 7, a seat he will assume in January, and cannot serve on both boards concurrently.

McGuffey posted a public notice in Thursday’s Observer-Reporter, stating the district “is seeking applicants from District I (consisting of Blaine Township, Donegal Township and Claysville Borough) to fill a vacancy … Letters of interest are due” in the administration office by 3 p.m. Dec. 28.

The board may vote on that position at its next meeting Jan. 18.

Directors last week also reappointed Andrews & Price as district solicitor, at a monthly retainer of $500.
