Carroll Township police are continuing to investigate a two-vehicle crash in which a Monongahela woman was killed early Saturday.

Laura L. Erickson, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene on Route 837 near Donora Road. The other driver, Veronica Rodriguez, 59, of Prospect Avenue, Donora, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Police Chief Paul Brand said Rodriguez was still being treated at the hospital Monday.

Erickson was going south and Rodriguez was traveling north on a three-lane section of the road when their vehicles collided, Brand said. Erickson’s vehicle caught fire after the crash.

An accident reconstruction specialist for the state police along with the state police forensic services unit were at the scene as well as Donora and Monongahela police. Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from Carroll, Donora and New Eagle and Tri-Community Ambulance.

Erickson is the 24th person to die on Washington County roads this year.
