Attorney killed in suspected hit and run was a ‘zealous advocate’
A colleague remembered the Cecil Township-based attorney who was killed in an accident in Allegheny County Sunday night as a “great guy to work with” whose wit was infectious.
“He had a great sense of humor, hard worker, and he was the kind of guy that, when he was in the room, everybody was laughing,” said Bob Shreve, managing attorney at Ackman and Associates’ office in Southpointe, Tuesday.
Michael Menner, 50, of Glenshaw, was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital Sunday night, less than an hour after he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Ross Township, in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. He was crossing Babcock Boulevard just before 7 p.m.
A Facebook account belonging to Philly Pretzel Factory’s Ross store, which is located on the block of Babcock where the accident occurred, identified Menner as the father of an employee.
“This is the most despicable thing that could possibly happen to any family, a week before Christmas,” the company said in a post Monday morning.
Multiple news outlets reported Tuesday police impounded a vehicle in connection with the incident and identified a woman as a suspect. She had not been charged or named publicly as of that afternoon. Her attorney, Phil DiLucente, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
On Monday, Township police were looking for vehicle they believe to have been a white Subaru Legacy that appears on surveillance video of nearby McKnight Road following the crash.
Menner is survived by his three children and one grandchild and was a practicing partner at Ackman and Associates, according to his obituary on the website of Neely Funeral Home in Glenshaw. He was with the firm since 1998 and primarily handled criminal and juvenile matters throughout Western Pennsylvania, Shreve said.
“I always thought that he was a zealous advocate for his clients,” he added.
