Slovan man allegedly threatened girlfriend with a knife

A Slovan man was jailed on aggravated assault charges after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a knife Tuesday afternoon.

John Lanham, 49, of 9 John Avenue Extension, was charged by Smith Township police with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend about 2:30 p.m. at his residence.

Police said Lanham was intoxicated when he made threats to the woman, pointed a knife at her and said he would kill her. Police said the woman suffered a cut on her finger when he pointed the knife at her.

Lanham was arraigned Tuesday night by District Judge Robert Redlinger and jailed on $10,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 11 before District Judge Gary Havelka.
