Police charge woman for leaving kids on roadside
A Pittsburgh woman was charged last week by Cecil Township police with two counts each of endangering the welfare of children and reckless endangerment after she allegedly abandoned her teenage children along the side of the road.
Jennifer Saucier, 41, is accused of leaving the children near the intersection of Millers Run Road and Route 980 Jan. 22.
The 14-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy flagged down an officer who was passing by. The children told police their mother started acting strangely after leaving a church in the Cecil area. They told police their mother was crying hysterically and turned up the volume on the radio.
One of the teens reportedly told their mother to pull over or call 911. When the vehicle made the turn at the intersection, the two teens got out of the vehicle, telling police they were concerned for their safety. Their mother drove off, heading west on Route 50, with a 10-year-old daughter in the vehicle.
The teens tried calling their mother on her cellphone, but she would not answer. When police called her, she reportedly hung up on the officer and would not call them back.
The teens were taken back to the station, where their father and stepmother came to pick them up. Police tracked Saucier’s cellphone to Bridgeport, Ohio. Bridgeport police were notified and Saucier and the girl were found on foot near a local airport, police said. The girl was released to her father.
The charges were sent by summons from the office of District Judge Traci McDonald. Saucier is scheduled for a March 23 hearing before McDonald.
