Waynesburg man resentenced on burglary charge
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man expelled from the state intermediate punishment program, to which he had been sentenced on a charge of burglary, was resentenced Wednesday by Greene County President Judge Farley Toothman to time served.
Alex Justin Uveges, 25, of 325 Zimmerman Lane, pleaded guilty to burglary, theft and criminal trespass and was sentenced June 11, 2015, to two years in the state intermediate punishment program, which included 7 months in prison followed by probation and participation in a community treatment program.
Uveges had pleaded guilty to breaking into a house at 511 N. Richhill St., Waynesburg, Aug. 28, 2014, and stealing a laptop computer and other items.
Uveges was removed from the SIP program last month for violating program guidelines regarding the use of a controlled substance, according to court documents.
He was resentenced by Toothman to 18 months and 20 days to 5 years in jail and given credit for the 18 months and 20 days he had served in the state program. He also was fined $300.
Uveges was ordered to receive a drug and alcohol evaluation and to comply with any recommended treatment. He was permitted to transfer his probation supervision to North Carolina.
In other business before the court, a Carmichaels man who pleaded guilty more than a year ago to receiving stolen property and retail theft was sentenced Monday by Toothman to time served.
Shawn Edward Martisko, 33, of 305 Parkview Knoll, pleaded guilty in December 2015 to stealing property from the Tractor Supply store in Waynesburg. His sentencing had been scheduled several times, but each time was continued.
Martisko was sentenced to 17 days to 18 months in jail and given credit for 17 days he already had served in jail. He was ordered to perform 75 hours of community service. His probation supervision was transferred to Monongalia County, W.Va.
Police said Martisko stole a mesh utility cart from the front of the store Dec. 21, 2014, and went to a register and told the clerk he was returning the item. He received a gift card for $84.75. As he was leaving the store, he picked up a salt spreader and fled. Martisko’s actions were taped on the store’s video surveillance cameras.
