Student’s death not considered suspicious
An autopsy was conducted Monday afternoon on the Waynesburg University student who died in a campus dormitory, although the results were not immediately released.
The autopsy on Bradley Grinnen was performed by forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht in Pittsburgh, although the circumstances surrounding his death, along with the cause and manner, were not made public by Monday night.
Grinnen, 21, of Ellwood City, was found dead Sunday morning inside Willison Hall.
Waynesburg police Chief Rob Toth said Monday he could not discuss details of the investigation, but that the death is not considered suspicious. He said officers were called to campus about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, but he declined to say who found Grinnen or called 911.
“The university has been very cooperative, which has always been the case and was so this time, too,” Toth said.
Grinnen was pronounced dead at 11:22 a.m., according to the Greene County coroner’s office.
University officials said grief counselors were available for students Sunday and will continue to be on campus over the next few days. A prayer vigil was held Sunday night at Roberts Hall.
Grinnen, a junior defensive lineman, was named first team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference this past season when he was the Yellow Jackets’ fourth-leading tackler with 48 and led the team with eight quarterback sacks.
