County controller seeking fifth term
Michael L. Namie has announced he will seek re-election to a fifth, four-year term as Washington County controller, campaigning on his record of fiscal conservatism.
Namie, 52, of Canton Township, intends to file as a candidate in the May 16 Democratic primary.
“I am seeking re-election based upon my proven record of making sound decisions in the best interests of the taxpayers,” Namie said in a news release. “I have always performed my duties as county controller with the utmost integrity, accountability and independence. My main goal is to always meet the taxpayers’ expectation that there is a ‘watchdog’ in county government making sure that tax dollars are being expended properly on their behalf.
“In keeping with that expectation, I have consistently operated my office under budget, saving the taxpayers in excess of $395,000.”
As county controller, Namie oversees a staff of 10, including his recently named deputy controller, Cathy Sams.
Namie noted he is a full-time controller, and in that capacity he is a member of the Washington County Prison Board, salary board and retirement board, which is responsible for pension investments under the defined-benefit plan that is mandated by state law for county employees. He is past president of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Controllers.
A lifelong resident of Washington County, Namie is a 1986 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College. He and his wife, Cindy Cimino Namie, are the parents of two children, Michael, 23, and Morgan, 19.
The Washington County controller’s annual salary is $82,774.
