Canton man charged with child endangerment
A Canton Township man was arrested by state police after he allegedly kept three young children in a wooded area for almost an hour after assaulting his girlfriend.
Leonard Weiser IV, 25, of 2700 W. Chestnut St., is charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count each of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment.
Police were called about 8:35 a.m. Friday to a home on Mary Street. Weiser and his girlfriend reportedly got into an argument that turned physical. He allegedly hit her head against the wall, threw her to the floor and dragged her.
Police said Weiser then fled into a wooded area with their two sons and a daughter, who range in age from 1 to 3. He remained in the woods for more than 45 minutes before complying with orders to come out, police said.
Weiser was arraigned before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a March 1 preliminary hearing before Mark.
