Canon-McMillan School District will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the high school auditorium to discuss Senate Bill 76, the Property Tax Independence Act.

This legislation, if passed, has the potential to impact many taxpayers by means of replacing their property tax with an increased personal income tax and expanded sales tax on many other items and services not currently subject to taxation.

This meeting will include a presentation from Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials representatives on the local implications of the proposal and is open to the public.

Speakers will include Jay Himes, PASBO executive director; Hannah Barrick, PASBO director of advocacy; and state Sens. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township, and Guy Reschenthaler, R-Jefferson Hills.

Questions can be submitted prior to the meeting by accessing Canon-McMillan School District website at www.cmsd.k12.pa.us and by clicking on the link located on the home page.
