Charleroi man arrested on assault charges
A Charleroi man was arrested early Wednesday by Charleroi Regional police after he allegedly punched a 51-year-old Charleroi woman and her 15-year-old daughter before hitting their dog with a wooden club.
Scott Cook, 54, of 728 Fallowfield Ave., is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, having a prohibited offensive weapon and cruelty to animals.
Police were called to the apartment building just before 1 a.m. after Cook allegedly went to his neighbor’s apartment and started to pound on the doors and walls with a wooden club that had tape on one end that was used as a hand grip. Cook reportedly hit the door multiple times with the club, yelling at the woman and her daughter, complaining they were being too loud. When the woman opened the door, he allegedly punched her in the head and chest. The girl came to her mother’s defense. Police said she was punched in the head, and Cook then reportedly bit her finger and hit her in the back and back of the head with a wooden club.
The family’s pit bull terrier ran into the hall, and police said Cook hit the animal in the head with the club.
The woman and her daughter were taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment.
Cook was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins and placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled for a March 9 preliminary hearing before Hopkins.
