Burgettstown student killed in Hanover Township crash
Counselors were available in Burgettstown Area School District Tuesday in response to the death of a student.
Ryan E. Goins, 17, died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle, head-on collision Dec. 29 in Hanover Township.
According to Hanover Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark Wilson, the crash occurred about 9:30 a.m. on Steubenville Pike in the area of Bucey Road.
Goins was extracted from the wreckage by members of the fire department. He was transported to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said Wilson.
The accident report could not be obtained from the Hanover Township Police Department.
According to Wilson, the driver and two passengers in the other vehicle involved were not injured.
An email notifying Burgettstown district families of Goins’ death was sent out Dec. 31.
Goins, a senior who played soccer, was described by Principal Brian J. Fadden as a respectful and polite student.
“Ryan was the type of young man who went out of his way to say hello to me in the hallway and always did it with a smile,” Fadden said in an email. “He will be deeply missed by all members of the Burgettstown Area School District.”
A service was held Dec. 31 in Taucher Funeral Home, Burgettstown. According to Goins’ Facebook page, a candlelight vigil was held in his memory Jan. 1 in Burgettstown Park.
