Man gets 20 to 40 years for killing estranged wife’s beau
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania man will spend 20 to 40 years in prison for shooting a man who was dating his estranged wife.
An Allegheny County judge sentenced 27-year-old James Husok on Thursday. The McKeesport man was convicted by a jury in October on charges including third-degree murder, evidence-tampering and possessing an instrument of crime.
Authorities say Husok told investigators his estranged wife called him crying from a bar in September 2015, saying she and 27-year-old Michael Welsh had been fighting.
Officials said Husok went looking for Welsh and found him in an alley a few blocks away from his McKeesport home. Husok claimed he fired after Welsh appeared to reach for something.
But prosecutors say Husok wasn’t acting in self-defense because he left his home to seek Welsh.
