Chartiers Township police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and to remove valuables after about two dozen vehicles that apparently were left unlocked were entered earlier this week.

Two guns were stolen along with wallets, cash, gift cards and credit cards. Other vehicle owners reported the interiors had been rifled through, but nothing was stolen.

The thefts are believed to have happened late Monday or early Tuesday. Thefts were reported on Walnut Street, Summit and Everest circles, Linda Lane, and Locust, Adlin and Sugar Maples avenues.

A resident reported seeing a black man, weighing about 170 to 180 pounds in his late teens or early 20s, on Summit. He wore a baggy, black shirt black pants and shoes.

Chief James Horvath said vehicles should be kept locked, especially if valuables and guns are inside.

“We know and are proud that our neighborhoods are considered safe by our residents,” Horvath said. “But unfortunately, the people doing this rely on that.”

Horvath said that residents who see something suspicious, especially at night, should call 911 so an officer can check it out.

Anyone who might have information is asked to call police at 724-745-8030, extension 215. Residents who have not reported that their vehicles were entered are also asked to call police.
