A Burgettstown man was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges after state police reportedly found him with a large amount of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop on the ramp from Interstate 70 east at Jefferson Avenue in Washington.

Daniel J. Dailey, 25, of 105 Bell Ave., was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped about 9:20 p.m. A trooper saw the front seat passenger, identified as Dailey, open the window and throw a substance out of the vehicle. As the trooper approached, he could smell the odor of raw marijuana.

Dailey was found with a large bag of suspected marijuana in the pocket of his hooded shirt.

Inside the pocket of his jeans, police found $1,404. Dailey reportedly told the trooper he won the money at The Meadows Casino.

Police also found a white, powdery substance on Dailey’s jeans and hands and on the passenger seat, door and floorboard. Police also found a plastic bag with white residue and two corners cut from a plastic bag.

Dailey was placed in the back of a police cruiser. While a trooper was talking with the driver, Dailey reportedly became violently ill in the back of the cruiser. Dailey was taken to Washington Hospital, where he reportedly admitted to taking Percocet and cocaine. He also told a second trooper he got the money from his bank to take to the casino.

Police said Dailey reportedly received six calls and three text messages on his cellphone in about an hour. They plan to get a search warrant for the phone and may file additional charges against Dailey pending a search of the phone records.

Dailey was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on charges of possession and possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and tampering with evidence. He was placed in Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled for a Jan. 25 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
