Nemacolin man pleads guilty to disorderly conduct for kicking dog
WAYNESBURG – A Nemacolin man who attempted to punch a tenant he wanted to evict from his home and then kicked the tenant’s dog across the room pleaded guilty Wednesday before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich and was sentenced to time served.
John Thomas Walker, 46, of 356 Dewey Ave., pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, harassment, public drunkenness and cruelty to animals.
He was sentenced to 16 days to one year in jail and given credit for the 16 days he had already served in jail. Walker also was fined $300 and ordered to perform 30 hours of community service.
Police said Walker was trying to evict tenants Shanelle Smitley and Ronald Conard Jr. from an apartment in his home Oct. 1.
He entered the apartment and screamed at the tenants and attempted to punch Conard. He also kicked the couple’s Jack Russell terrier across the room and into a wall. Police said they found the dog crouched down and shaking beside the bed.
After Walker left the home, Conard locked the door. Walker then took a hammer and began striking the door and door knob causing damage to the door, police said.
Conard was treated at the scene for anxiety and chest pain.
Police said Walker was intoxicated. He told investigators the tenants hadn’t paid rent and he wanted them to leave the property.
