Police: South Franklin man beat elderly disabled man
A South Franklin Township man is in jail after allegedly beating an elderly disabled man early Sunday morning. Multiple witnesses told state police Martin Alexander Work, 49, of 60 Keenan Ave., South Franklin Township, and his wife had been drinking most of the previous day when they got into an argument around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at Work’s residence.
Police said Work then went into the elderly man’s bedroom and allegedly began punching him while he was sitting at his desk. Work allegedly kicked down the door of the older man’s bedroom and began hitting the man with the door, according to the criminal complaint.
Police said the elderly man, who lives at the same residence as Work, had lacerations to his arm, face and stomach.
Work was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. He’s being held in Washington County jail on $25,000 bail, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 3 before District Judge Ethan Ward.
