California man arraigned on felony retail theft charge
A California man who has been charged seven times with retail theft since October was arraigned Monday on a felony count after an alleged theft in South Strabane Township earlier this month.
William Matsko III, 29, of 520 Second St., was wanted on a felony charge of retail theft and for criminal trespass after he allegedly stole a cellphone case from Walmart, Trinity Point, on Jan. 10. He has been banned from the store since October after another alleged theft.
Matsko was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and placed in Washington County Jail on $50,000 bond. Matsko was at Kanalis’ office Monday for a preliminary hearing on charges of retail theft and harassment for allegedly stealing a sheet set Dec. 20 from Dollar General, 3220 National Pike. He also is accused of making a comment to a store employee that was perceived as a threat when he was not allowed to return the sheets.
Those charges were waived by Matsko. Kanalis set a $2,500 unsecured bond on those charges.
Matsko also is accused of stealing items from Target and Kohl’s at Strabane Square, Home Depot on Murtland Avenue and Walmart.
Matsko is scheduled for a Feb. 6 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller on the felony retail theft and trespass charges.
