Area man faces more than 40 drug charges
A Waynesburg man is facing more than 40 drug charges after Greene County Children and Youth Services tipped off police to the condition at his residence.
According to the criminal complaint, CYS requested that Waynesburg police accompany them to the home of Shane Somerville, 21, and Cheyenne McCaffrey, at 249 Nazer St., Monday afternoon.
Police said when they arrived at the house, CYS requested both Somerville and McCaffrey submit to drug testing. Somerville tested positive for marijuana, police said. CYS took custody of a juvenile who was in the home.
While at the residence, police found drug paraphernalia and later served a search warrant on the house. They found more than $800 in cash, jars and bags with marijuana, grinders and digital scales with marijuana residue on them, empty suboxone packets, white pills, a glass jar labeled “Blue Dream,” a jar with a marijuana plant growing in it and a container with white powder.
Police said they also found weapons including knives, boxes of shotgun shells, other loose bullets, a semi-automatic handgun and a 12-gage shotgun. Police said the handgun was found to be stolen out of West Virginia.
Somerville told police “everything in the house is mine,” and none of the evidence belonged to McCaffrey, the complaint said. He also told police he was buying marijuana for $200 an ounce and selling it for $560 an ounce, the complaint said.
Somerville was charged with receiving stolen property, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a firearm prohibited, three counts of possession of a controlled substance and 38 counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Somerville is in jail on $60,000 bail, while he awaits his preliminary hearing, scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Wednesday before District Judge Lee Watson.
No charges have been filed against McCaffrey.
