Truck crash closes Route 136 in Carroll
A truck hauling a 39,000-pound steel coil crashed and rolled over on Route 136 in Carroll Township about a mile west of Monongahela Thursday morning, closing the road for about two hours.
Carroll police Chief Paul Brand said Eric Manz, 48, of White Oak, was driving the truck for Ronald Gross Trucking of Cabot, Butler County, going west about 8:15 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. The truck rolled over and the steel coil came loose, landing on the eastbound berm.
The road had to be closed while Bujanowski Towing removed the wrecked truck as well as the steel coil. Brand said the crash is still under investigation by police, but speed was clearly a factor.
“Fortunately there was no other traffic at the time and no other drivers were involved,” Brand said.
Manz was treated at the scene by Tri-Community Ambulance personnel for minor injuries and refused transport to Monongahela Valley Hospital.
