A South Strabane Township man was arrested Wednesday by township police after he allegedly assaulted his pregnant girlfriend and then drove for more than a mile with her on the hood of the vehicle after the confrontation in their home.

Thomas Lloyd Dupuis, 51, of 354 Booth Road, was charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of harassment.

Police were called just after 6 p.m. for a domestic at the home. Officers were met by the 28-year-old woman, who is reportedly five months pregnant, and her 8-year-old daughter. Police said the woman was visibly upset and the girl appeared to be scared.

She told police she and Dupuis, who she identified as her live-in boyfriend, got into an argument. Dupuis reportedly got loud, and her daughter grabbed the mother’s cellphone in an attempt to record the dispute. Dupuis allegedly grabbed the girl by both arms, lifting her off the ground and then taking the cellphone from her. When the woman tried to retrieve her cellphone, Dupuis reportedly pushed her against the wall.

Dupuis went outside and got into a vehicle. The woman jumped onto the hood and he drove off. Police said Dupuis drove about 200 feet down the driveway onto Booth, and then another mile before he stopped and allowed her to climb into the vehicle through a window. The two then reportedly returned home where the girl had been left alone.

Dupuis told police the two got into an argument and he went outside to work in the garden. When police asked him about the vehicle, he said it did not belong to them and he drove it because he wanted it gone. He told police his girlfriend jumped onto the hood and that he drove down the driveway and back. He denied touching the girl.

Dupuis was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka and placed in Washington County jail on $15,000 bond.
