An Erie man was arrested Friday morning by Canonsburg police after he allegedly pointed a gun at a 31-year-old Canonsburg man during a confrontation in the borough’s East End.

Scott Stanley Kunath, 53, was arraigned before District Judge David Mark on charges of reckless endangerment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and terroristic threats.

Police were called just before 10 a.m. to 412 Giffin Ave. for a report of four people in the backyard arguing. Police were told one of the men had a gun. When an officer arrived, he saw a man andwoman in the yard gathering clothes. The officer drew his gun, ordering the two to show their hands and get on the ground facedown.

When Officer James Eckels asked the man, later identified as Kunath, if he had a gun. Kunath told the officer he did have a gun and a permit to carry it. When Eckels asked him where the gun was, Kunath responded it was in his pocket. The officer told him not to reach for it. The gun was retrieved by police.

The alleged victim told police Kunath asked if the man’s girlfriend was in the home. Kunath and the girlfriend’s mother are reportedly friends. Kunath told the girlfriend he was going to take her to work and she needed to get her belongings. The alleged victim went to his father’s home next door. When he returned, he said he grabbed his girlfriend’s cellphone. Kunath than allegedly pointed his weapon and told the man, “I tried to be nice to you. Put the phone down or I will shoot.”

The alleged victim told Kunath he was calling police, and Kunath reportedly waited in the yard until officers arrived.

Police from Cecil, Chartiers and North Strabane townships assisted at the scene.

Kunath was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. He is scheduled for a July 26 preliminary hearing before Mark.
