Bentleyville mother charged with endangerment
BENTLEYVILLE – A Bentleyville woman is wanted on a felony charge accusing her of failing to call 911 after her toddler swallowed part of a pill used to treat opiate addiction and became unresponsive in May.
District Judge Curtis Thompson Monday signed a warrant for the arrest of Brittany I. Matuck, 31, of 706 Old West Road on a charge of endangering the welfare of her 1 ½-year-old daughter, court records show.
Matuck awoke in her residence about 7:50 p.m. May 21 to see her child standing in front of her holding a dose of Subutex and ingesting some of the pill, Bentleyville police stated in the affidavit supporting the criminal charges.
The child vomited four to six times and was placed by Matuck in a bathtub in an attempt to revive her from the reaction to the pill, which also is a narcotic painkiller, court records allege.
Matuck also faces accusations she sent her mother “around looking for Narcan” to reverse the effects of the drug, police stated in the affidavit.
No one called for help for the child for an hour and 40 minutes, until her father called Matuck and overheard discussions about the situation and Narcan, police said.
Police said Matuck lied to an officer for about 15 minutes before admitting the child waited that long to receive the appropriate care.
Matuck allegedly told police she didn’t want to call 911 because of an active investigation at Washington County Children and Youth Services involving her child’s care. The record did not indicate whether the child was placed into the custody of CYS. Bentleyville police could not be reached Tuesday.
