Greene County will honor county athletes who have won state titles during the past year with a parade today in downtown Waynesburg and a ceremony on the steps of Greene County Courthouse.

The celebration, organized by Greene County commissioners and a committee of parents, coaches and courthouse employees, will begin at noon with a parade on High Street, from Morgan Street to the courthouse.

Waynesburg council Monday approved closing High Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the event.

The celebration will honor the West Greene High School girls softball team, which won the state championship; Waynesburg High School graduate Ben Bumgarner, a track and field state champion; Marissa Kalsey, a Waynesburg High School graduate who won a championship in pole vaulting at Westminister College; and Gavin Teasdale of Jefferson-Morgan High School, a state wrestling champion.

Various presentations will be made during the ceremony on the courthouse steps.
