A bridge on Route 18 that spans House Run in Center Township fully reopened to traffic Wednesday after construction crews completed the rapid bridge replacement project.

The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.

The bridge is one of 558 bridges being replaced under the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project and joint-venture partnership between the state Department of Transportation and Walsh/Granite, which is leading construction for the entire project.

Meanwhile, crews have delayed the start of construction for a bridge on Mapletown Road, which spans Whiteley Creek in Monongahela Township. The work was previously scheduled to begin the week of July 10, but the start date has been pushed back to July 31 with a completion date in November. During construction, drivers will be directed to follow a detour along Old Hunting Hills Road, Dairy Road and Route 88.
