A man who is in Washington County jail on an outstanding parole violation is a suspect in the “good Samaritan” stolen-vehicle case.

State police filed charges of receiving stolen property and false identification against Ivan Sadler, 54, of Washington. The charges were filed in the Buffalo Township office of District Justice Ethan Ward.

State police reported troopers from the Washington County barracks took him into custody around noon Wednesday after finding him in possession of a stolen vehicle on Moore Road in West Finley Township. Police said Sadler is suspected of committing multiple burglaries and thefts in multiple counties. The “good Samaritan” incident unfolded early Sunday morning.

State police said a man driving a Kia Sportage that was stolen in Washington lost control of the vehicle on I-79 southbound near the Carnegie exit in Collier Township at about 2:30 a.m. They said the car went off the left side of the road and hit a guardrail separating the southbound and northbound lanes.

Drivers of several vehicles who witnessed the crash stopped to help. Todd Krut, 54, of Claysville, was among them. While he was checking the Kia for passengers, the driver of that car got into Krut’s Ford F150 pickup truck and began to drive off.

Krut tried to stop the driver and was dragged about 100 feet before falling onto the road, and the driver exited I-79 at the Carnegie exit. Krut was taken to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

Around 6 a.m. Saturday, Alexandra Fullum realized her mother’s black 2016 Kia was gone from in front of their Woodland Ave home. Her mother, Jeri Williams, told Washington police she went to bed about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

Williams reported a purse containing keys to the vehicle and credit cards belonging to her were stolen from inside the front door of the house. Luggage was still in the vehicle.
