Man accused of pointing gun at child sentenced
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man accused of pointing a loaded shotgun at his 2-year-old son last year was sentenced Wednesday to 8 to 16 months in jail.
Marquell Lawrenc Bailey, 25, of 146 W. Lincoln St., was convicted by a jury in May of recklessly endangering another person for an incident that happened Nov. 30 at his residence.
His girlfriend at the time, Corrin Raymond, called police and told them Bailey had threatened her and their child with a shotgun and that he was going “into the street to start shooting until the police arrived” and “wasn’t going down easy,” according to court documents.
Bailey testified during his two-day trial Raymond made up the story because they had argued that morning.
He testified he had the gun in his hands that day because he planned to pawn it for money so he could move back to Cleveland.
The jury found Bailey not guilty of terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.
Greene County Judge Lou Dayich gave Bailey credit for time served since Nov. 30 and made his sentence concurrent with a parole violation sentence he is already serving.
Bailey also must complete 60 hours of community service and pay a $300 fine.
