A Washington man was arraigned Thursday on a warrant obtained earlier this year by South Strabane Township police charging him with failing to register his address as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.

Ronald James Thomas Jr., 52, of Murtland Avenue, formerly of Aurora, Colo., was convicted in Florida in September 1998 of sexual battery with force.

Thomas was ordered by the courts to report his residency every three months. He initially reported his residency to Pennsylvania State Police in September 2012 but has been out of compliance six times, according to court documents. Thomas reported his residency last September but failed to do so in December, police said.

In February, township police Detective Michael Schidlmeier was able to verify Thomas was registered in Aurora.

Schidlmeier said Thomas also is wanted on an outstanding warrant obtained April 19 by Aurora police after he allegedly gave them a false name.

Thomas was placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond set at his arraignment by District Judge Jay Weller. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 25.
