Washington man accused of strangling prostitute
A Washington man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly tried to strangle a prostitute he reportedly paid for sex.
Vincent E. Davenport, 50, of 375 Locust Ave., is charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and patronizing prostitution.
City police were called about 9:15 p.m. to the apartment building after a neighbor heard a woman screaming for help. While police were on the way, the neighbor called 911 to report the woman was yelling he was killing her before it got quiet in the apartment.
When police went to Davenport’s apartment, it reportedly took him a few minutes to answer. Davenport then partially opened the door. Police said it appeared he was trying to prevent officers from entering. Police said Davenport and the 28-year-old Canonsburg woman were naked, and there was broken glass and the woman appeared to be in fear.
The woman reportedly admitted to police she was a prostitute and he had paid her $40. When they were unable to have sex, she reportedly offered to give him his money back. Davenport reportedly became enraged and put his hands around her neck while swearing at her.
Police said they plan to charge her with prostitution.
He was arraigned before District Judge Traci McDonald and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. McDonald also ordered he not be released on bond before a hearing before a Common Pleas Court judge to determine if conditions of pretrial supervision should be imposed. He faces a July 26 preliminary hearing before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
