Two people were injured Tuesday in separate assaults in a span of a little more than two hours, Washington police said.

Summer Thomas, 19, called police about 4:20 p.m. to report she had been assaulted inside her North Franklin Street home. John Williams, 20, of Washington, was assaulted about 6:45 p.m. in an apartment on East Walnut Street.

Thomas said she was assaulted all day by a 24-year-old Washington man. She told police he spent the previous night at her home. When they woke up Tuesday morning, he reportedly started going through her cellphone. She told police he became enraged and started choking her and knocked her to the floor.

Police said they saw bruises on the woman’s neck. Thomas told police she was able to break free, and the man chased her to a second-floor bedroom, where he allegedly started beating and kicking her. Police saw bruises on her back, arms, legs and lip. She also had a cut on her lip.

The 24-year-old alleged assailant reportedly left and went to confront a neighbor of Thomas, but the neighbor was not home.

The man allegedly returned to Thomas’ home, locked all the doors and held her against her will for 1 ½ hours. Thomas told police someone knocked on the front door, and while the alleged assailant was distracted, she was able to escape through a back door.

Police said the 24-year-old man was gone when they arrived. They plan to charge him in the assault. Police did not indicate whether Thomas was taken for treatment.

Williams told police he was at an apartment visiting two people when he was assaulted. He said a black man, about 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 9 inches tall, came into the home and hit him in the face and head. Williams said his attacker wore a black and blue T-shirt, blue shorts and a gold watch. He also had a mustache and tattoos on his legs. Police searched the area but were not able to find the assailant. Neither Williams nor the two witnesses could identify the attacker.

Williams was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
