CHARLEROI – The owner of a building in downtown Charleroi will be billed for the removal of a chimney that was pulling away from the brick structure.

Kendrick Lorenzo of Douglasville, Ga., will be billed $2,100 for the loss of parking meter revenue for the past six months while five spaces next to 421 Fallowfield were blocked off beside the chimney, Councilman Larry Celaschi said.

The parking spaces have been reopened after borough employees removed the chimney from the side of the two-story building last week.

Celaschi said the decision to take action involved an “imminent danger,” and that Lorenzo hadn’t returned any messages from the borough. He said the building owner also will be billed for the time borough employees spent removing the chimney.

The building, a former bar, has been vacant for several years. A sign on the facade indicates it’s for sale by the owner.
