Fire kills two, including man who jumped, injures others

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Authorities say a fire in a three-story building in Pittsburgh killed two people, including a man who jumped to his death, and injured several other people, one of them critically.

The Pittsburgh public safety department said firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the Hill District blaze shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Arriving police officers reported people trapped on the upper floors, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene after jumping from the structure. Another person was found dead inside.

Another man was taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition and a woman to UPMC Presbyterian in stable condition. A firefighter was taken to UPMC Mercy with minor injuries after falling through a roof. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
