Washington ceremony to recognize 82
Washington School District will hold commencement exercises for 82 seniors at 6:30 p.m. today in the Washington High School gymnasium.
Speakers will include Superintendent Dr. Roberta DiLorenzo, Dr. M. Belinda Tucker, valedictorian Alexas Iams and salutatorian Stephen Patrick.
Iams, daughter of Todd and Jana Iams of Washington, is Student Council secretary, a member of National Honor Society and prom committee, was junior class treasurer, and competed on Hometown High Q as a member of the academic team. She is captain of varsity volleyball and employed at Brownson House. She won the Howard J. Burnett Presidential, Saint Vincent College Chancellor’s, Elizabeth Ann Seton, Saint Francis University Founders’, Allegheny College Trustee and Duquesne Academic scholarships, Challenge Program STEM award, Student of the Month and Pencil of Excellence highest grade percentage. Iams, who earned 41 college credits, plans to attend Washington & Jefferson College and major in biology on the pre-health track and minor in history.
Patrick, son of Donald and Roxanne Patrick of Washington, is a four-year marching band member and drum captain his senior year. He is a member of percussion ensemble, concert band, steel ensemble, jazz ensemble and National Honor Society, a four-year rifle team member and captain his senior year. Patrick participates in 4-H and Frazier Simplex rife, competed in the FIRST Robotics competition and was senior leader of many subteams. He was a Student of the Month, won the Challenge program Academic Excellence Award, Band Director’s Award, Steel Band Senior Award and Akron Advantage Gold, and received scholarships from Akron Honors College and Akron Guarantee. A mentor and alumnus of the Washington Robotics club, Patrick plans to attend Williams Honors College of the University of Akron, Ohio, and study mechanical engineering.
