No liquor sales for Rostraver GetGo
There will be no liquor sales at the GetGo on Route 51 South in Rostraver Township.
Rostraver Township Commissioner Devin DiRienzo made a motion at Wednesday’s meeting to approve a transfer of a liquor license from a Bolivar Township tavern to the Giant Eagle/GetGo, but it died without receiving a second.
Commissioners then proceeded to pass a motion disapproving the transfer of the license. That motion passed 3-1 with DiRienzo voting no.
Supervisor Gary Beck said the area in which the GetGo is located has several alcohol establishments and felt an additional store supplying alcohol is not needed.
“Within a 3 ½-mile radius, there is a winery, six restaurants and three beer distributors,” he said. “I don’t think another establishment selling alcohol is needed in that area.”
DiRienzo said he supports the transfer of the license to the township. “I believe in competitiveness and accessibility,” he said.
In other business, DiRienzo said on Memorial Day weekend, he received three odor complaints concerning the Westmoreland County landfill. Maintenance was being performed on one of the gas flares that burns off gases and the backup flare wasn’t working. “The problem was that both flares were tied into the same line. That is being addressed,” he said.
DiRienzo said a meeting will be held at 2 p.m. June 19 with officials from the landfill at the municipal building. “Residents are encouraged to attend to address any concerns they have about the landfill,” said DiRienzo.
