WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg man died in a Saturday night crash on Route 19 in Franklin Township.

State police said Phillip J. Wyant, 26, was driving north about 7:20 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road just past McNay Hill Road.

He crashed into a parked car and a carport on the side of the road before striking a utility pole, which caused the vehicle to roll onto the driver’s side, police said.

Wyant, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to WHS-Greene hospital, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries at 9:13 p.m., according to the Greene County coroner.

Waynesburg-Franklin volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.
