Fourteen days after elevating Chet Henderson to principal of the junior and senior high school, Washington School Board approved an assistant principal for each.

The directors unanimously approved Darren Vaccaro for the dual position Monday evening. Vaccaro, dean of students the past four years, will be paid an annual salary of $68,500. A Ringgold alumnus, Vaccaro previously was a math teacher in Washington district for 11 years.

Henderson, who had been the junior high principal, will essentially remain in that job while also assuming the high school principal’s job. He will be in charge of about 600 students in grades seven through 12.

Paul Kostelnik was his predecessor at the high school. Kostelnik resigned from the district, effective July 1, to be co-principal at Trinity Middle School.

At its previous meeting June 5, the directors approved a 2017-18 balanced budget of $27,705,787. It features 3.15 percent increase in property taxes, a hike of .4969 mills.

Monday’s school board meeting was the last for Dr. Roberta DiLorenzo, who is retiring after 20 years with the district – the past 18 as superintendent. June 30 will be her last day.

“We can schedule another meeting over the next week and a half,” one director quipped. Dr. James Konrad was hired March 27 as her successor.
