A Canton Township man was arrested Friday afternoon on several charges by Washington County sheriff’s deputies after he reportedly ran from them and then struggled with the two deputies as they went to take him into custody on a bench warrant.

Kevin Michael Partozoti, 29, of 151 Griffith Ave., is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and possession of cocaine and six counts of possession of paraphernalia.

Deputy Ronald Catrain Jr., who was riding in a sheriff’s department cruiser with Deputy Christopher Bioni, said they were in the Goat Hill area of Canton Township when they happened to see Partozoti on the porch of a home in the 100 block of Charles Street.

“He saw us and ran into the house, closing the door,” Catrain said of Partozoti. “We could see him looking through curtains on the door. He then ran through the house and out the back door.”

Catrain said Partozoti ran a few hundred yards into a wooded area. A taser had to be used to stop him, deputies said. The deputies said they wrestled him to the ground as they tried to take him into custody. Catrain injured his wrist in the scuffle and Bioni injured his knee. The deputies, along with Partozoti, were taken to Washington Hospital where they were treated and released.

Found inside a backpack Partozoti was carrying were about two grams of suspected cocaine, needles, pipes and a digital scale, according to deputies.

Partozoti was wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear at a May 8 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of theft by deception, retail theft and driving under suspension.

Partozoti was arraigned Saturday morning before District Judge David Mark and placed in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond. He is scheduled for a July 12 preliminary hearing before Mark.
