Coroner: Hickory man killed in ATV accident
A Hickory man was killed Sunday night in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Independence Township.
Cody Dale Wood, 26, was pronounced dead after a side-by-side ATV vehicle he was riding in a wooded area near the 800 block of Meadowcroft Road in Independence Township near Avella went over an embankment at about 8:30 p.m., according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco.
Wood was unrestrained and not wearing a helmet, Warco said.
Pennsylvania State Police was assisted at the scene by Avella and Jefferson Township volunteer fire departments, Ambulance and Chair Service, STAT MedEvac Brooke County, W.Va. and Franklin (W.Va.) Community Fire Department.
The incident is under investigation by state police.
